Back in the summer of 2018, in the very early months of the blog’s beginnings, I had a wonderful idea: to provide a round-up post at the start of every month. Okay, it wasn’t my idea; monthly round-ups are regularly seen on other blogs and news-sites. But still, the idea was a good one. I hoped that it would help arrange the different posts and to allow me to look back more easily on the content produced in each passing month.
And so that was that for many months, with minimal changes to the basic format. Then, by the end of 2019 I converted the monthly round-up into a bi-monthly round-up, mainly because I found the four-weekly process of summarising recent posts a rather tedious activity. The term ‘bi-monthly’ itself presents a couple of problems due to its definition. Either ‘occurring every two months’ (which was my intention), or ‘occurring twice a month’ (which was something that I definitely wanted to avoid!).
Then, by the end of 2020, this regular feature stopped. By the end I found the whole process of summarising a tad dull and so I simply ignored it. That is, until today with this post.
What ever happened to the monthly round-ups? The answer is simple: sheer tedium. However, I do actually regret not continuing with this little series. I do enjoy re-reading posts from time-to-time, and aside from the realisation of the high number of typos, I enjoy looking back and seeing my thought process at different times. One of the key reasons for engaging with a blog is its reflective opportunities; although this blog is not a diary, it does provide an overview of my interests month after month.
Perhaps all this means that the monthly round-ups will resume more once. But this may be on a bi-monthly or even tri-monthly frequency. If only to help me make sense of the pattern of posts on this blog!
